Kourtney Hughes, LAT, ATC, CPT

Kourtney Hughes is a Board-Certified and licensed athletic trainer and Certified Personal Trainer, bringing 8 years of experience in injury care and rehabilitation. Originally from Oviedo, Florida, she attended the University of North Florida, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. She began her career as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, earning a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from Auburn University with a focus on Biomechanics. Kourtney is married to her husband, Justin, and they currently live in Opelika. 

Clair Mattox, LAT, ATC, CPT

Clair Mattox is a Board-Certified and licensed athletic trainer with 11 years of experience in the field, including 4 years of teaching experience at Opelika High School. She is originally from Alexander City, AL, and continued her post-secondary education at Troy University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. After graduation, Clair began her career as a graduate assistant athletic trainer while earning her Master of Education in Exercise Science with a concentration in Biomechanics from Auburn University. Clair is married to her husband, Dillon. They live in Opelika with their 3 children, Gracelyn, Macie, and Thomas, and their dog, Belle.


The Orthopaedic Clinic Physician Partner: Dr. Trent Wilson, Orthopedic Specialist

The Student Athletic Trainer Program is available for grades 10–12 through Sports Medicine I and II electives at Opelika High School.

For a Safe & Enjoyable Experience for All

To ensure a safe, smooth, and enjoyable experience for our students, families, and fans, all attendees will be required to pass through metal detectors and follow the clear bag policy at our athletic events.

What to Bring:

  • Clear bags up to 12” x 6” x 12”
  • Small non-clear clutches no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”
  • Sealed water bottles

Exceptions:

  • Diaper bags for guests with infants or toddlers
  • Medical bags sized appropriately for necessary medical equipment

What to Leave at Home:

The following list of prohibited items was established to protect the safety and best interests of students, employees, and fans.

  • Weapons (including pocket knives)
  • Non-clear bags that exceed 4 1/2" x 6 1/2"
  • Bags larger than 12" x 6" x 12"
  • No outside food or beverage (exception for sealed water bottles)

Our Facilities

OHS Baseball Field

The Opelika High School baseball field has undergone a major transformation with the installation of artificial turf, replacing the former natural grass surface. In addition to the new playing surface, the field features upgraded lighting and improvements to the indoor hitting facility, including the installation of new batting cages. The National High School Baseball Coaches Association (NHSBCA) has named Opelika High School’s baseball field the Region 3 Synthetic Turf Field of the Year.

The Opelika High School baseball field has undergone a major transformation with the installation of artificial turf, replacing the former natural grass surface. The facility now features two brand-new turf fields designed for enhanced playability and durability, modern dugouts that provide improved comfort and functionality, state-of-the-art scoreboards to keep fans engaged, and new stadium lighting that allows for exciting evening games and events.
