Lee County Remembrance Project (LCRP), in partnership with Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), invites all 9th-12th grade public school students in Lee County, AL, to participate in 2024’s Racial Justice Essay Contest. This includes students attending all public high schools in the Auburn City, Opelika City, and Lee County School Districts. Students are asked to write an 800 - 1,000-word essay about racial injustice in the past and its impact today. The contest will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd. All essay submissions are due by Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. CT. Prizes totaling up to $5,000 will be awarded to winning participants! Winners will be announced at the Day of Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday Nov. 17th 2024.
The 2024 Captain of My Soul Foundation Scholarship is the Omega Psi Phi International Essay Contest information. Each scholarship applicant is required to submit an essay in the international contest. Additional items must be included. View the application to see all requirements. Due to Counseling: Must be submitted to the Counseling Department no later than 3:30pm on Friday, October 25th, 2024. Due to Local Chapter: If you miss the school deadline, you are responsible for submitting your essay and application to the local Nu Iota Iota chapter before October 31st, 2024.
The Voice of Democracy is open to students in grades 9-12, by the Oct. 31 deadline, who are enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school, or home study program in the United States, its territories and possessions; or dependents of U.S. military or civilian personnel in overseas schools. Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme is, “Is America Today our Forefathers' Vision?” You will submit the recording, typed essay and this completed entry form. Provide these items to your school/group competition or VFW Post for judging. All entries must be submitted to the local VFW Post or to the School Counselors. Deadline to enter online is October 31, 2023. Deadline to submit to the Counseling Department is October 21, 2023.

The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.Entry forms and information can be found in the Class of 2025 Scholarship Information Google Classroom. Due to the OHS Counseling Department on November 1, 2024.
This scholarship awards 3 $1000 merit-based scholarships in our area. Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA, Transcript, Resume, Letter of recommendation from your counselor, and video essay. Due Dates: November 22nd: Submit your Resume, Rec Letter, and Transcript to Mrs. Belcher (we have to mail those from the school) November 29th: Submit your video essay to the committee via instructions on the application.

Applicants are required to be a participant in the annual MLK, Jr. Observance Day Celebration for a minimum of 1 year. Winners will be announced on January 20, 2025 during the MLK Celebration. This $10,000 college scholarship is awarded by ALET each year in honor of Debbie Rice, a long-time leader in the organization who served as the Technology Director for Auburn City Schools until 2014. he Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, designed to provide recipients with the opportunity to graduate college debt-free. Applicants must attend a traditional public high school governed by a school district. This scholarship is worth $7,500 per semester for up to 8 semesters of college. Due Date: Dec 1, 2024

The Smith Scholarship Foundation, established by Avondale Mills heiress Mignon Comer Smith, invests in the college education of economically disadvantaged students across the state of Alabama. Deadline to Apply: January 10, 2025. Applications will be done online, it is not compatible with phones or tablets so you will need to use a computer. This is a $500 scholarship offered by Generations for America. Copies of this scholarship will be available in the Counseling Office. Completed applications should be returned to the Counseling Office no later than January 23, 2025. The Taco Bell Foundation provides young adults (ages 16-26) the opportunity to receive educational funding through the Live Más Scholarship program. Applications are open now through January 3, 2024! The Alabama Community College System has expanded the allowable use of Career and Technical Education Dual Enrollment scholarships to cover the cost of STEM-related academic courses. A limited number of dual enrollment scholarships are available to cover the cost of tuition and fees for ONE STEM-related course for the 2023 Spring semester at Southern Union. The deadline to submit the scholarship application for the 2022 Fall semester is the end of the business day (4:30 pm CST) January 3, 2023.

Each year, the Maxwell-Gunter Spouses’ Club (MGSC) proudly awards scholarships to military dependents to help them pursue their higher educational goals. These scholarships are awarded to the selected students based on academic excellence and involvement in their school and community. Applications are available in the OHS Counseling Office. Completed Applications are due to the OHS Counselors by February 10, 2025.

Offer: $2,500 scholarship (4 per member city) Requirements: Student's parent/legal guardian must receive electric service from Opelika Power Services. Student must attend a four-year college/university, community college, and or vocational/trade school within the state of Alabama. The parent or high school senior student must be a member in good standing at Four Seasons Federal Credit Union prior to January 1, 2025. (Required $5.00 in a savings account.) Student must submit a typed essay of no more than 250 words explaining career objectives and explain why he/she wishes to be considered for this scholarship. The completed application, official high school transcript, letters of recommendation, and essay are due in the High School Guidance Office no later than Friday, February 7, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. Please check all application requirements.

This one-time scholarship is to help high school seniors gain access to higher education. The student applying must have an account at MAX. The applicant must be a spring 2025 graduate. The Alabama State Treasurer's Office is proud to offer the CollegeCounts Scholarship for high school seniors planning to attend Alabama colleges and universities in Fall 2024. Over the last ten years this Program has awarded $9.3 million to more than 2,700 Alabama students! The CollegeCounts Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship designed to help more Alabama students get started in college. The application Deadline is February 28, 2025.
The 2025 HSF Scholar Program Application is now open and closes on February 15, 2025, 5:00 PM PT. Eligibility: Must be of Hispanic heritage U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, or DACA. Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students; minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for college and graduate students. Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, public or not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, in the U.S., for the 2024-2025 academic year. This $1,000 scholarship is open to Alabama high school senior girls with a minimum 2.75 GPA and plans to attend an accredited 2- or 4-year college in fall 2025. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, provide a transcript, resume, and letter of recommendation, and submit a 500-word goal statement outlining future education and career plans, leadership, service, and how the scholarship will support their goals. Submit all materials to the OHS Counseling Office by March 10, 2025.
Open to 2025 graduating seniors who have been residents of Georgia or Alabama for at least one year, this scholarship requires a minimum 3.0 GPA, a college acceptance letter, and a current high school transcript. Applicants must also submit a resume of extracurricular and community service activities, a brief personal financial need statement (2-page max), two letters of recommendation, and a 300–500 word essay on why they are the ideal scholarship recipient. Completed packets (excluding transcript) are due to the OHS Counseling Department by March 25, 2025.
McDonald’s of Auburn, Opelika, and Tuskegee will award a $1,000 scholarship to one graduating senior at Opelika High School and other area schools. Applicants must submit a completed application, transcript, and a one-page typed essay detailing future plans, educational goals, and financial need. Turn in completed materials to the OHS Counseling Department by March 25, 2025.
Sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. – Pi Epsilon Lambda Chapter, this scholarship application is due March 14, 2025. All application materials must be uploaded through the Google Form linked via QR code on the flyer. Students should use a personal Gmail account (not their school email). Transcript requests must be submitted by March 11, 2025.
P.A.C.E. will award five $1,000 scholarships to Lee County high school seniors who demonstrate financial need, academic excellence, leadership, and community service. Applicants must submit an online application, official transcript, one letter of recommendation, and a typed essay by Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.
George D. Echols Community Service Scholarship: The PACE George D. Echols Community Service Scholarship recognizes students who have made a positive impact in their schools or communities by demonstrating, exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship through service in the community as a volunteer. Recipients of this scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Printed Copies of this application will be in the OHS Counseling Office. Women Destined for Success in Him founder, Cheryl Comer (Cheryl Comer Ministries aka CCM) established the DFS scholarship in 2014 for the purpose of granting educational assistance to benefit qualifying students entering an academic college or university. This scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $500. The application opens February 1 and closes March 31. Completed applications should be submitted to the OHS Counseling Department by March 31, 2025.
Planning to attend Southern Union after graduation? This scholarship benefits individuals who have the desire to become teachers and relate well with young people. Applicants may be entering or continuing college, individuals who are in education and want to upgrade their skills, or working individuals who wish to return to college to become teachers. Established to honor Jerry Bartley’s lifelong passion for basketball, this scholarship supports graduating high school seniors in Alabama who are active AAU basketball players and meet NCAA Division I academic eligibility standards. The 2025 Todd Webb Scholarship awards $1,000 to a graduating senior from any Alabama high school who plans to study in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors from Auburn High School and Beauregard High School with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must show leadership, sportsmanship, good citizenship, and involvement in work or extracurricular activities. Apply by March 1 via the Central Alabama Community Foundation website with a transcript, essay, involvement form, and references.
This scholarship offers a $1,000 award to an Opelika High School senior. Administered by the Community Foundation of East Alabama, the scholarship will be presented at the OHS awards ceremony, with funds sent directly to the student’s chosen college or university. Apply by March 1 via the Central Alabama Community Foundation website.
The Minority Rural Health Scholars Program offers current high school juniors from rural Alabama the chance to explore careers in medicine and dentistry through a summer program at The University of Alabama. Participants will live on campus, take college-level courses in chemistry and creative writing, and engage in seminars and field trips focused on rural health. Applications are due March 15, 2025.
This scholarship is offered by Sisters Exemplifying Excellence, awards six $500 scholarships to African American seniors graduating from Auburn, Beauregard, Beulah, Loachapoka, Opelika, or Smiths Station High Schools. Applicants must submit a well-written essay (500 words or less) on how they exemplify excellence in their community. Entries are due via email between January 22 and March 15, 2025.
This scholarship is available to graduating seniors with at least a "B" average who plan to enroll in college in Fall 2024. A hard copy of the application must be completed and submitted to the OHS Counseling Department by 3:00 PM on March 29, 2024. Applications are available in the Counseling Office only; no digital copies are provided.
The Buster Bynum Education Scholarship offers a one-time $2,000 award to one public-school student in each of the 14 Southeastern States Pupil Transportation Conference (SESPTC) member states. This scholarship honors R.A. “Buster” Bynum, a longtime leader in pupil transportation. Opelika High School seniors interested in applying must submit their application materials to the OHS Counseling Department by Friday, April 26, 2025.
The Greg Ray Memorial Education Scholarship is a one-time $2,000 award honoring Greg Ray’s legacy in Alabama school transportation. It is available to students whose parent or guardian has been an active pupil transportation employee for at least the past three years. Interested Opelika High School seniors must submit their application materials to the OHS Counseling Department by March 26, 2025.
The Mike Cox Memorial Education Scholarship is a one-time $1,000 scholarship awarded to two deserving public school students whose parent or guardian has worked in pupil transportation for at least the past three years. Named in honor of Mike Cox’s dedicated service to Alabama schools, this scholarship is sponsored by Southland International in Birmingham. Applications are due to the OHS Counseling Department by March 26, 2025.
The Charles “Chuck” Poland Education Scholarship is a one-time $1,000 award honoring the heroic sacrifice of Dale County bus driver Charles Poland, who gave his life to protect students during an armed attack in 2013. This scholarship is available to a deserving public school student whose parent or guardian has worked in pupil transportation for at least three years. Applications are due to the OHS Counseling Department by March 26, 2025.
The Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association (AAMA), in partnership with the Alabama Community College System, is offering 34 scholarships of $4,000 each to high school seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA who plan to pursue careers in automotive manufacturing. Scholarships may be used at any Alabama community college in programs like Welding, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Automotive Service, and more. Funds cover tuition, books, and fees. A full application includes an online form, reference letter, headshot, transcript, and completion of an orientation course. Apply by March 28, 2025.
The Lee County Tuskegee Alumni Club Scholarship is open to graduating seniors from accredited high schools in Lee County, Alabama, with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants must submit an official transcript, two signed letters of recommendation (one academic, one civic or religious), a senior photo or 2x2 passport photo, and an acceptance letter to Tuskegee University (if available). Copies of the application are available in the OHS Counseling Office. Completed packets are due to the Counseling Department by March 28, 2025.

The OHS 1982 Alumni Group will award two $500 scholarships to graduating Opelika High School seniors to assist with college expenses. Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, financial need, school and community involvement, and interest in higher education. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, be in good standing, and submit a complete packet including an application, college acceptance letter, one-page essay, sealed transcript, and photo ID. Incomplete applications will not be considered. All materials are due to the Counseling Department by April 25, 2025.
The Curtis House offers the Lottie B. Curtis Scholarship for graduating Opelika City Schools seniors who reside in the Jeter community and demonstrate strong character in school and community life. Applicants must actively participate in a Curtis House youth program or their local community and submit an essay on the topic “What does service mean to you?” along with three letters of recommendation (two from school, one from the community) and proof of college or trade school acceptance. Applications are due to the Counseling Department by April 29, 2025.
The 100 Black Men of Greater Auburn/Opelika is offering $500 scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend an accredited college or university during the 2024–2025 school year. Eligible applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA, be involved in community service within the past year, and demonstrate leadership, academic achievement, and financial need. Online schools are not eligible. Selected recipients must provide a professional headshot and agree to be featured in scholarship-related media. Applications are due to the Counseling Department by April 29, 2025.
The Harris Funeral Home Scholarship awards $500 to distinguished African American seniors from five local high schools, including Opelika High School. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA, demonstrate leadership, community involvement, and academic achievement, and plan to attend college full-time beginning fall 2025. Funds will be awarded directly to the student before college enrollment. Applications are due by April 30, 2025, and can be submitted through the Harris Funeral Home website. This scholarship awards one graduating senior from a select list of high schools, including Opelika High School, with a four-year college scholarship. Recipients will receive $1,000 per year for four consecutive years, provided they remain full-time students at an accredited college or university and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Applications are due to the OHS Counseling Office by April 17, 2025.
The 2025 Yetta G. Samford, III National Honor Society Scholarship is open to NHS members who plan to attend the University of the South at Sewanee, the University of Mobile, or any campus of the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, or Huntsville). Applicants must submit a letter of acceptance to one of the listed schools, a resume highlighting leadership and service, a letter of recommendation from someone outside the school community, and a transcript. A personal essay is also required addressing why the applicant is deserving of the scholarship. All materials must be emailed to beverly.belcher@opelikaschools.org by April 17, 2025.
The Honorable Patricia A. "Patsy" Jones Scholarship is a $1,000 award for a graduating senior accepted to Alabama State University. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, submit an official transcript, one teacher recommendation letter, and a typed essay of at least 200 words on “The Importance of Education and What this Scholarship Means to Me.” Completed applications are due to the OHS Counseling Department by April 11, 2025.
The Beta XI Chapter of the Alabama Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teacher Sorority awards a $1,000 scholarship each year to a graduating senior planning to major in education. Applicants must submit a high school transcript, two reference letters (one from a teacher and one from an adult outside of school), and a typed statement explaining their interest in teaching and any relevant experience. All materials are due to the OHS Counseling Department by April 1, 2025.
The Katie Bell Jackson Academic Scholarship honors the legacy of Katie Bell Jackson, who valued education despite leaving school in the ninth grade due to socioeconomic challenges. This scholarship supports a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated academic excellence and meaningful community involvement. Applications are due by April 4, 2025, and must be submitted via the linked Google Form.
This scholarship is open to graduating seniors from Opelika High School with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who have applied to a two- or four-year college. Applicants must submit a completed application, resume highlighting school and community involvement, and a brief essay discussing educational/career goals and the importance of “Service Above Self.” Applications are due to the OHS Counseling Office by April 1, 2025.
Scholarships will be awarded by May 2025 to graduating African American seniors from Opelika High School to support tuition and related expenses. Four $500 scholarships will be given in the following categories: Public Housing Authority, Mobile Home Park, Highest Academic Achievement, and Lowest Academic Achievement (residency will be verified). Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, be in good standing, and submit an application with a one-page essay, sealed transcript, college acceptance letter, and two signed letters of recommendation. Applications are available in the OHS counseling office and due by April 16, 2025.
Due to OHS Counseling Department by April 17, 2025 Established in memory of Ms. Emma Jean Lipscomb, a trailblazing Lee County educator, this scholarship honors her legacy of academic excellence, mentorship, and service. A graduate of Alabama State Teachers College and Tuskegee Institute, Ms. Lipscomb dedicated her career to shaping students' lives both in and beyond the classroom at Lee County Training School. This scholarship recognizes students who embody her values of ambition, academic growth, and community contribution.
This one-time $5,000 scholarship is awarded to one graduating senior at Opelika High School who demonstrates excellence in academics, athletics, and extracurricular involvement. Eligible applicants must be accepted and enrolled full-time in a college or university undergraduate program, participate in at least one high school varsity sport, and showcase leadership and service in the community. Applications will be available beginning February 18, 2025, and must be completed by both the student and a principal or counselor. Due April 4, 2025.
This $500 scholarship is for an Opelika High School Senior, planning to attend Southern Union State Community College, who has demonstrated admirable character traits that have benefited their family, church, workplace or community. Due April 4, 2025.
This scholarship offers a minimum of $500 to graduating African-American seniors residing in Lee County with at least a 3.0 GPA and an ACT score of 18 or higher. Applicants must provide a completed application, two letters of recommendation (including one from a school official), a sealed transcript, a college acceptance letter (if available), a resume, and a two- to three-page essay reflecting on a leadership or extracurricular experience. The scholarship will be paid directly to the student’s college or university financial aid office. Due April 1, 2025.
Deadline: April 16, 2025 by 3:00 PM – Submit to the OHS Counseling Office The AmeriFirst Al Cook Scholarship is a one-time award for graduating seniors enrolling full-time at an accredited college, university, technical, or vocational school. The scholarship will be paid directly to the institution. Applicants must submit a completed and signed application, including all required attachments. The J.W. Darden High School Alumni Association Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award for graduating seniors, including descendants of alumni members and other eligible students. Applicants must have at least a 2.0 GPA, be accepted to a college or technical school, and submit a sealed transcript, college acceptance letter, letter of recommendation, and proof of community service. The 2024 Student-View Scholarship Program awards over $14,000 to high school seniors planning to attend a four-year college, community/junior college, or career school. Prizes include one $10,000 scholarship, two $1,000 scholarships, and five $500 scholarships. Alabama seniors are also automatically entered into a separate $500 Alabama Senior Scholarship drawing. The 2024 Opelika Dixie Youth Baseball Scholarship is available to high school seniors who participated in Opelika DYS for at least four years (or two if recently relocated), maintained a minimum GPA of 85, and were involved in at least two years of extracurricular activities between 9th–12th grade. Preference is given to baseball participants, but all activities are considered. Applicants must submit a completed application with all documentation by 1 p.m. on April 26, 2024.
The Echols Family Social Club Educational Scholarship is a needs-based book scholarship honoring James Echols Sr., “The Lemonade Man.” It supports students taking nontraditional educational paths, especially those entering skilled trades or underrepresented fields like cosmetology, HVAC, nursing, or entrepreneurship. Applicants must submit a short essay themed “Turn Lemons into Lemonade,” explaining their goals and how education will help them succeed. Finalists will be interviewed, and winners are encouraged to “pay it forward” after completing their education. While there is no 2024 application currently available. Deadline is April 17.
The Buckets of Smiles Scholarship is awarded to a childhood cancer survivor who is a senior at a high school in Alabama and plans to attend a college or university. The nonprofit organization, founded in 2017, delivers activity items to childhood cancer patients and raises funds for cancer research. Applicants must email all materials—including a resume, letters of recommendation, essay, and transcript—to smilebuckets@gmail.com. There is currently no 2024 application available.
The OHS Alumni Class of 1983 annually awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating Opelika High School senior who plans to attend a two- or four-year college. Applicants must reside in the Opelika district and demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and community service. Priority is given to students interested in legal education. Recipients must maintain at least a 2.75 GPA and provide proof of enrollment before funds are disbursed. There is no current 2024 application available.

Thames Orthodontics offers a $1,000 Smile Scholarship to any graduating senior in the community, regardless of whether they are a current or former patient. Applicants must rank in the top half of their class, have credible ACT/SAT scores, and submit an application including a resume, transcript, two teacher recommendations, and a 400–500 word essay titled “What Makes Me Smile.” The essay should describe a meaningful, joyful moment. Applications are due to the Counseling Department by April 24, 2025, or may be mailed directly to Thames Orthodontics by May 1, 2025.
The Class of 1998 Foundation Dr. Don and Lorna Roberts Scholarship is available to graduating seniors. To apply, students must submit a completed application, two letters of recommendation, and a high school transcript.
