Welcome Back

Hi Parents and Students,

Welcome back to Opelika High School! We are thrilled to begin a new school year with you. Our team has been hard at work over the summer preparing for what promises to be an incredible year of learning, growth, and success.

Just a reminder—the first day of school is Wednesday, August 6th. We can’t wait to see everyone back on campus!

New Traffic Pattern

OHS worked with the Opelika Police Department to address traffic challenges during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. We've created a new traffic flow that begins on the first day of school, August 6th, to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and create a smoother drop-off and pick-up experience.

  • Review the updated routes shown in the attached map.
  • Allow extra time as we all adjust to the new traffic flow.
  • This specific pattern is for arrival and dismissal times. You will still be able to use the entrance at the traffic light when you come to campus outside of arrival and dismissal times.
  • Police officers will be helping direct traffic and control the Lake Condy traffic light.
  • Expect an adjustment period, and please be patient with fellow drivers.

Car Riders/Buses/Car Drivers

Car Riders: All car riders should enter campus behind the football stadium. An Opelika Police Department (OPD) officer will be stationed there to direct traffic. After entering, please follow the route around the back of the school and drop your student off at the Arena Hall entrance.
Student Drivers: Students who drive themselves should enter campus at the Lake Condy traffic light. An OPD officer will also be present at this entrance to manage traffic.
Buses: School buses will enter through the Lake Condy traffic light as well and proceed to the front of the school to drop off bus riders.

All vehicles must turn right when exiting campus.

The same traffic pattern will be used at dismissal times.

***If you come to campus during the school day to check out a student, drop something off, etc., you may enter and exit at the traffic light at Lake Condy (any time between 8:30 and 2:45).

FOCUS Act

Governor Kay Ivey recently signed the FOCUS Act into law, banning student cellphone use during the school day in all Alabama public schools. This law is designed to reduce distractions in the classroom, improve student engagement, and promote online safety. Exceptions are allowed for emergencies, health conditions, or educational purposes.

At Opelika High School, we are committed to creating an environment that minimizes distractions and maximizes learning. Due to limited locker availability, we have purchased secure, lockable pouches for each student to store their phone during the school day.
Upon entering the building, students will place their phone in the pouch, lock it, and keep it in their backpack or purse. As they exit the building, they will unlock the pouch using magnetic unlocking stations mounted near the exits.

If you need to contact your student, you are welcome to email them using their school-issued email address (accessible via their Chromebook), or you may call the front office and we will ensure your message is delivered promptly.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to foster a focused and productive school environment.

A school bell schedule for the 2025-2026 academic year is displayed.

Bell Schedule

On the first day of school, students will report to their DIG teacher when the 7:55 bell rings to pick up their most updated schedule.

Doors unlock at 7:15. Any student reporting to school before 7:55 will wait in the Main Street Gym until the bell rings (or until time for breakfast).

Students are considered tardy if they are not in class by the time the bell rings at 8:00.

A+ College Ready Cohort 18

Opelika High School is proud to be one of only 16 schools across the state selected to join Cohort 18 of the A+ College Ready College and Career Readiness Program.

A+ College Ready—an initiative of A+ Education Partnership in collaboration with the Alabama State Department of Education—works with secondary schools to build a diverse pipeline of students who are prepared for success in college, careers, and life. The program focuses on increasing access to Advanced Placement (AP) and other rigorous coursework in grades 6–12.

To prepare for this exciting opportunity, several of our OHS teachers participated in intensive, high-quality training over the summer. This training equips our educators with the tools, strategies, and resources needed to deliver more rigorous instruction and challenge students to think critically and deeply. As a result, our students will benefit from more engaging classroom experiences and be better prepared for the demands of college-level coursework and beyond.

A Note from the Principal

It is one of my greatest honors to serve as the principal of Opelika High School. I am proud to work alongside such a dedicated team of educators and staff who are committed to helping every student succeed—both in the classroom and beyond.

At OHS, we believe in building strong relationships with our students, families, and community. Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out if I can support you or your student in any way. I look forward to an incredible school year filled with growth, achievement, and lots of fun!

Go Dawgs!
