Be sure to check the deadlines listed for each scholarship. Scholarship due dates will differ from guidance due dates for scholarships to be turned into the office. The due dates for guidance are typically a week prior so that we may process the application before it is mailed out.

Due to Mandated School Closures the following scholarship donors have agreed to extend the Scholarship Deadlines until APRIL 15th.

Senior Scholarship Drive Thru

On Thursday, April 9th from 11:00 am- 12:30 pm Guidance will be at the front of OHS to collect completed scholarship applications and to distribute new scholarship applications to students. We will collect the completed applications, add transcripts as needed, and mail.Please be sure to read each application thoroughly and include all needed materials as there will be not be time to make adjustments. All students must have recommendation letters included with their application packet or emailed to brittney.cahela@opelikaschools.org by 1pm on Thursday, April 9th for all scholarships with an April 15th deadline or a prior deadline. Students may scan and email all scholarship materials to brittney.cahela@ opelikaschools.org if you are unable to drop it off during the scholarship drive thru. Reminder: All scholarship applications can be accessed on the OHS guidance webpage.

If you would like to mail completed applications on your own, then I have included the mailing addresses below for each of these scholarships.

BBB is pleased to offer the "Student of Integrity Scholarship" to recognize high school students who personify and communicate ethics in the real world. High school seniors are encouraged to apply by submitting an essay, record of community service, and evidence of leadership.

2020 Essay Topic: "What is the evidence of your trustworthiness, and why is it important?"

If you were to be asked "are you an honest or ethical person", how would you prove it? How would others prove that you are trustworthy? Why is it important to be a trustworthy person?

Award: Five scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded

National Village Ladies Club Scholarship

Eligibility: Graduating female senior who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, school and community involvement, and a desire for higher learning.

Eligibility: Graduating Senioraccepted into a 2-4 yr college or university, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

J.W. Darden High School Alumni Association Scholarship

Eligibility: Descendants of active J.W. Darden High School Alumni Association with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Tom Woodward Visual Arts Scholarship

The Tom Woodward Visual Arts Scholarship is open to students that are attending a technical school, art school, or collage and are studying and/or including any visual arts medium including drawing, painting, ceramics, intermedia, and digital art as part of their curriculum.

Eligibility:

  • Plan to further education in any phase of the visual arts. REMEMBER, you do not have to major in a visual arts field.
  • Submit three letters of recommendation. Preferably one from a teacher, one from a fine arts instructor, and one from someone in the community.
  • Complete a written application, including a short essay.
  • Include portfolio pieces as a part of application.

Hudson Family Scholarship

Eligibility: Senior who can demonstrate financial need and has overcome a personal or family hardship. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Sisters Exemplifying Excellence - Amy Harris Core Textbook Scholarship

Eligibility: African American female students who will be enrolled into an accredited college or university for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Apply: All entries must be emailed to theladiesofsee@yahoo.com. Applications are available in guidance or on the website.

Instructions: Please read the step by step instructions closely for submitting your scholarship. The essay must be attached in the form of a Microsoft Document.

Deadline: Must be emailed by March 27, 2020. Do not turn into guidance, but we will assist you in submitting your application if needed.


J and A Academic and Sportsmanship Scholarship

Eligibility: Graduating Senior who has excelled in both the classroom and extra-curricular activities including high school sports.

Destined For Success Scholarship (Cheryl Comer Ministries Scholarship)

Eligibility: Students must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0, from a single parent home, and submit a letter of acceptance from a university or college.

Lee County Alabama A&M Alumni Association Scholarship

Eligibility: Graduating senior who has been accepted to Alabama A&M

Opelika Character Council Southern Union Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is for an Opelika High School Senior, planning to attend Southern Union State Community College, that has demonstrated admirable character traits that have benefited their family, church, workplace, or community.

Required Documents:

  • Completed Application
  • Paragraph describing how you have exhibited excellence in character and how it has benefited your family, church, workplace, or community. Limit: 500 Words.
  • Letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, community leader, etc. describing why you would be a deserving recipient of the scholarship.

Four Seasons Federal Credit Union

Eligibility:

  • Student must be currently enrolled and in good standing as a high school senior. The student or parent must be a member in good standing at Four Seasons Federal Credit Union prior to January 1, 2020. Membership Requirement: $5.00 in Savings Account.
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must be accepted into a college, university, or other post-secondary school during the 2020 academic school year.
  • Must obtain 3 letters of recommendation. At least 2 must be from members of the high school faculty or administration.
  • Must submit a typed essay of no more than 250 words explaining career objectives and explain why he/she wishes to be considered for scholarship.
  • Application must be signed by student and parent/guardian.

Alpha Delta Kappa

Every year, Beta Xi Chapter, Honorary Teacher Sorority, of the Alabama Delta Kappa awards a scholarship to a member of the Senior Graduation Class planning to major in education. This year, the amount is $1,000.00.

Alabama Fostering Hope Scholarship

The Fostering Hope Scholarship is available for students who were in the foster care system when they earned a high school diploma or GED, as well as those placed in Kinship-guardianship or adopted from Alabama foster care after age 14. To be eligible for the Fostering Hope Scholarship, you must earn your high school or general education diploma BEFORE you leave care. The comprehensive program covers tuition and fees for eligible students enrolled full-time in a post-secondary certificate or undergraduate (associate or bachelor's) degree program; additionally, it will help eligible high school students begin planning ahead.

  • Eligible students may attend any of Alabama's public community and technical colleges, four-year colleges or universities.
  • Private colleges and universities are NOT a part of this program.
  • Academic Credit Hour Limits:
    • 144 for Bachelor's Degree
    • 72 for Associate's Degree
